GM foods are already widespread (present in nearly all processed and packaged supermarket foods (even “healthy” foods like Kashi cereal contains GM soy!), and it would cost a lot of money for manufacturers to print new labels. The thing is, even if the FDA demanded new labeling today, there will still be an adequate phase-in period for manufacturers to comply. Every day that goes by is another free pass for GM foods. So we have to get started now!
Tell FDA: Label Genetically Modified Foods!
Did you know that 85% of corn and more than 90% of soy in the US is genetically modified? GM foods may cause serious damage to your body, but the FDA does not want to give you a choice whether to eat them or not.
According to the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food consumption, including infertility, immune dysfunction (which can contribute to allergies, asthma, and inflammation), accelerated aging, insulin regulation, cell signaling, and protein formation. GM foods also directly damage the liver, kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal system.
Pet food is made from human food leftovers. Most commercial pet foods are loaded with GM corn and soy. Studies have showed terrible organ damage in rats from just a few weeks of eating GM food. And even if the pet food you buy doesn’t contain GM foods directly, the meat in that food was almost certainly raised on the same GM ingredients. It’s a lose-lose proposition for us and our pets!
Even though 92% of Americans want such ingredients to be labeled, like they are in the EU, the FDA has steadfastly refused to require such labeling. Good grief! You can’t even get 92% of people to agree that kittens are cute! That’s a huge majority…but FDA doesn’t care unless YOU tell them! It’s time to stand up to Monsanto and its buddies at the FDA and tell them: Just Label It!
